Gestational Diabetes

Gestational Diabetes is high blood glucose during pregnancy. Gestational Diabetes may be detected by screening when a woman is between 24 and 28 weeks pregnant.

Gestational Diabetes occurs in 3-5% of all pregnancies and carries a risk for both the mother and the baby due. You may be able to manage your Gestational Diabetes with lifestyle changes alone with a healthy meal plan. Some women also need to take insulin.

In most women with Gestational Diabetes, blood glucose levels return to normal after the baby is born. However, women who have had Gestational Diabetes are more likely to develop Type 2 diabetes, so you should be tested for prediabetes or Type 2 diabetes every three years after having your baby.
